Dear Subscriber,

Third-quarter earnings season “officially” starts on Wednesday with Alcoa's (AA) report.

Revenues and profits will be down for most companies on a year-over-year basis, so the key will be how the numbers fare relative to expectations. Guidance, as always, will also play a role as traders want confirmation that business is actually improving.

The economic calendar for this week is comparatively light. The bond markets could still be active, however, with several treasury auctions being conducted.
